“Due process is followed. The police identify the criminal and their antecedents, whilst civic and district administration officials provide notices and conduct hearings,” a police officer said.

Since December last year, the Gurgaon Police has demolished eight structures and sealed one unit as part of an extensive drive against assets acquired through alleged illegal means.

In the latest operation, Gurgaon Police on Monday demolished a five-storey house belonging to Banarsi — a criminal — which was illegally built on government land near Rajendra Park in Sector 105, police said. The same day also saw the city police seal a property in Sector 104 linked to gangster and criminal Sunil Dahiya alias Tota, they added.

Banarsi, a resident of Surat Nagar Phase 2 in the city, has been involved in various criminal activities, police said.

According to police records, six cases have been lodged against Banarsi spanning offences including assault, creating fear amongst people, murder, selling illegal intoxicating substances, theft, receiving stolen property, gambling and possessing illegal weapons.

Investigations revealed Banarsi had encroached on 50 square yards of government land to build the five-storey house and remained active in illegal activities to acquire illicit property, police said.

Tota, a resident of Gurgaon’s Dhanwapur village, has 34 cases lodged against him for various offences.

The offences include rioting, mischief, house trespass, robbery, dacoity, theft, attempted murder, extortion, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, assault on public servants, obstruction of public duty and multiple instances of possessing and using illegal weapons.

According to the police, Tota had acquired property through criminal activities and built a house of about 300 square yards in his brother’s name in Dhanwapur village.

The operations were led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Abhilaksh Joshi and Rajendra Park Station House Officer Inspector Rajesh Kumar, with support from Gurgaon nodal officer for encroachment RS Batth, officers said.

They were completed peacefully whilst maintaining law and order, police said. The police stated that such actions against criminals and illegal encroachers will continue.

These actions follow a series of similar operations in December 2025 against other alleged criminals in the city, said officers.
