Death Becomes Her star Jennifer Simard wrote, "I hope our collective consciousness is a small comfort to you at this time. Loving you.” Meanwhile, the New York City Ballet's Megan Fairchild added, "Stephen I can’t even believe this… we love you all so much. You are in our thoughts and prayers. You guys have had so much spirit and optimism, it was hard to imagine this was really possible."
Busy Philipps also showed her support amid the unimaginable loss.
"This news is absolutely heartbreaking and i’m so so sorry for your loss," she commented. "You both have brought such light and beauty and hilarity into the world and i’m just sending you and your family so much love and my deepest condolences."
Stephen and Bret had previously shared the news about Bret's HLH & T-Cell Lymphoma diagnosis, which they called "a rare and life-threatening immune condition."
"After many weeks of uncertainty, misdiagnoses, and countless medical visits, Bret finally has answers—but the road ahead will be long and challenging," the couple wrote on a GoFundMe page set up in August asking for donations to help them pay for Bret's treatment. "This diagnosis has required Bret to put many dreams on hold."
"What should have been a season of new beginnings has instead turned into an unexpected battle for health and stability," they added. "For those who know Bret and Stephen (aka The Broadway Husbands), you know the love, creativity, and light they bring into every space they enter. They have given so much of themselves to others over the years, and now it’s our turn to surround them with love and lift them up in this difficult moment."
In addition to his roles on Broadway, Bret—who made his Broadway debut in The Beauty and the Beast—also appeared on Only Murders in the Building, The Wolf of Wall Street and All My Children.
