He then gave the crowd an epic performance of DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s 2013 hit “Turn Down for What,” which had the judges cracking up. Rita Ora exclaimed, “How are we supposed to know who that is? I don’t even know what just happened.”
Googly Eyes was up against Cat Witch, who channeled Lady Gaga for a performance of “Abracadabra,” which led her victory over Googly Eyes, who joined the bottom five contestants, much to the surprise of the judges.
Ultimately Googly Eyes was sent home, with the judges using their detective skills to guess who was behind the giant costume.

All of them correctly guessed that it was a baseball player, with many pointing to Googly Eyes’ distinctive accent. Jenny guessed former Yankee Derek Jeter, while Robin Thicke opted for Boston Red Sox’s Manny Ramirez before quickly changing his guess to Pedro Martinez, leaving Rita to take Manny as her guess. But it was Ken Jeong who guessed correctly, identifying Googly Eyes as former Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, a.k.a. Big Papi, who helped the team win the 2004 World Series—their first after 86 years.
"I gotta tell you man, that’s a straight up workout boy," David told the crowd about his costume after being unmasked. "I don’t need to go to the gym for about a month."
"But it was so much fun, man. It was so much fun," he continued, joking that when it comes to his big number "Turn Down for What," "I can sing that all day."
And the World Series champion couldn't leave the stage without giving the judges one of his signatures lines.
"I got something for them," he began, "daaaaaaaaaaa Yankees lose!"
But David wasn’t the only star to say goodbye on the first episode. The end of the show teased that the duo of The Croissants were also headed home in a triple elimination, but it left their unmasking for episode two of the season. The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
Keep reading to meet the other mystery celebs who are going on to compete next week.
The Masked Singer's tallest costume was revealed to be Boston Rex Sox legend David Ortiz, who was sent home on the season 14 premiere.
