UP voters can now ‘Book-a-Call with a BLO’ for electoral roll updates. Here’s how it works

Voters in Uttar Pradesh can now ‘Book-a-Call with a BLO’ for help with electoral roll-related requests such as adding their name, removing incorrect entries, or correcting personal details before the final publication of the voter list on March 6.

The draft electoral roll for the state was published on January 6, following the second round of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which excluded 2.89 crore voters and retained 12.55 crore voters.

Claims and objections can be filed till February 6.

According to a statement from the EC, which launched the facility, voters can now book a phone call with their respective booth level officer (BLO) to seek information or assistance related to the electoral roll, including inclusion, deletion or correction of their details.

-The service is available through the ECI portal — voters.eci.gov.in — and the ECINET mobile application.

-After logging in with a registered mobile number or completing the sign-up process using an OTP, voters can book a call by entering their EPIC or reference number.

-Alternatively, they can provide details such as their state, district, assembly constituency and booth number.

-The BLO concerned will contact the voter within 48 hours.

UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa has appealed to voters to make maximum use of the facility for queries related to the SIR exercise and the electoral roll.

In the draft electoral roll, the total number of electors in the state decreased by nearly 19%, from 15.44 crore to 12.55 crore — 14.06% deletions are on account of electors being declared absent or shifted, 1.65% enrolled at multiple places and 2.99% deceased.

Of the 12.55 crore voters on the draft list, 1.04 crore will receive notices as their mapping has not been completed, Rinwa had said.

According to the SIR daily bulletin issued by the UP CEO, the claims and objections period under the SIR is open from January 6 to February 6. Eligible voters may submit claims for inclusion and objections for deletion of names from the draft electoral rolls by following the prescribed procedures.

The bulletin noted that political parties have appointed Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) to collect claims (Form 6) and objections (Form 7) from the public and submit them with the required declarations.

As per the bulletin, 1,334 claims and objections were received from national and state parties against the draft electoral roll.

Till Friday, among national parties, the ruling-BJP had submitted the highest claims — 1,214 — for inclusion of names in the electoral roll. The main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) filed 82 claims and objections.

The Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have filed 19 each; these claims are for inclusion of names in the electoral roll.

No party has so far filed any claim or objection for exclusion of voters.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M) and Apna Dal (S), which are active in UP and have deployed their BLAs for the SIR, have not submitted a single claim or objection so far.

The bulletin said after the publication of the draft rolls, 32,290 claims and objections were also received directly from electors for inclusion.
