SNL Alum Chris Redd Breaks Silence on Relationship With Kenan Thompson’s Ex Christina Evangeline

“While I was at the show, I had some pill issues,” he shared. “I had some pill problems, nothing too crazy but crazy for my Black ass. I was even selling some to people, some of my castmates."

While he didn’t name names—as he quipped that none of his peers had to worry about him “snitching” on them—he did accuse his costars of not lending a helping hand in his time of need.

“I would have panic attacks, [and people] wouldn’t be concerned about me or nothing, would just talk s--t ,” he continued. “And it was crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself.”

That’s when Christina—who was married to Kenan, 47, from 2011 to June 2022, when he filed for divorce—came into the picture.

“This lady was the only one to call me on my s--t, help me with my s--t,” he explained. “She helped me with my therapy journey and she told me things about her life that made me look at a lot of people involved differently. And in that time, we fell in love.”

But according to Chris, it wasn’t an easy decision to explore a romantic connection with Christina.

“I felt bad from the start,” he added, noting it was like “an emotional double-edged ass sword.”

He later continued, “But I did choose love.”

And he claimed that Kenan—who shares kids Georgia Marie, 11, and Gianna Michelle, 7, with the Garden by Evangeline founder—wasn’t totally in the dark about the couple’s connection. According to Chris, the pair—who also worked together on NBC’s Kenan from 2021 to 2022—had a chance to discuss the budding connection.

“We were cool and we continued to work for a year after we talked about it,” agreeing to “just keep this s--t under wraps,” he revealed. “And as soon as everybody found out, and s--t changed.”

E! News has reached out to Kenan’s rep for comment but have not heard back.

By the time the pair’s romance was fully public in 2022, Chris’ SNL stint had ended before the start of season 48, adding through tears, “and then by the time everybody found out and the world found out, I was out of there."

He also reflected on being punched in the face outside The Comedy Cellar in New York City in Oct. 2022, which he viewed as direct karma for his actions.

“Most people who know me from back home would know that I would be retaliating in a heartbeat, but not this time,” he said. “This time it felt fair. Fair enough.”

And even though he has remorse for how the situation went down, it was all worth it for Chris, who emphasized his once in a lifetime love with Christina.

“To all the fans I disappointed, just know this was not something—I don’t feel like a pimp," he said. “I don’t feel cool about this at all, besides the fact that I found someone that makes me feel like I didn’t even know what love was for real. And I just feel like I couldn’t miss out on it."

As Chris put it, “It felt like a love I couldn’t miss out on and I had to shoot for it.”
