BAREILLY: An FIR was filed against a local Bajrang Dal member who was caught on camera abusing policemen and threatening to burn down the Kemri police station in Rampur district after he was stopped from meeting a detained man without permission, said police. The incident took place on Sunday, and the video was widely circulated online, following which the police swung into action.
Police said the man, identified as Suraj Patel, had come to the Kemri police station to meet an arrested accused Mohd Suhel, who was in custody in connection with an undisclosed case. When cops refused to allow the meeting without due procedure, Patel lost his temper and began hurling abuses at the staff. In the video, Patel is heard using foul language against inspectors and sub-inspectors, accusing them of “nautanki” for denying him access. He is also seen daring the policemen to arrest him and boasting of his Bajrang Dal links. At one point, he threatens, “Jis daroga ya inspector me himmat Hai to mujhe maar kar dikhao, poora thana ko aag laga doonga” (If any sub-inspector or inspector dares to beat me; try, I will set the entire police station on fire).
After the clip spread rapidly on social media, Patel returned to the police station the same day and submitted a written apology. He also made an apology video expressing regret, saying his behaviour was wrong and would not be repeated.A senior cop, privy to the case, told TOI, Patel’s conduct at the police station was “uncontrolled and indecent”. “Later, he realised his mistake and gave a written apology and also shared a video seeking forgiveness. He has been warned not to repeat such behaviour,” he said.Police added that the additional SP, Rampur, has been asked to look into the matter and submit a report. "An FIR under relevant BNS sections has been lodged at the police station," said SP Rampur Vidhya Sagar Mishra.
