Sadiq Hussain Kapur, a realtor who was booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by the Pune city police in an offence linked to the dreaded Tipu Pathan gang, allegedly died by suicide Saturday.
The police said Sadiq Kapur, 57, a resident of Sayyad Nagar in Hadapsar, was found dead at his office in Kumar Palace in Pune Camp around 6.30 pm.
After receiving information, a team from the Lashkar police station rushed to the spot. The police found a purported suicide note of about 30 pages, in which Sadiq had allegedly named Faruk Inamdar, a former NCP corporator from Hadapsar, and others.
The police said Sadiq’s body was handed over to his family members after conducting a post-mortem at the Sassoon Hospital. Then, as per the procedure, an accidental death report was filed at the police station and a probe was launched into this case.
A press release issued Sunday by Inspector Girishkumar Dighavkar stated that Sadiq’s son Sajid Kapur, 27, filed a complaint of abetment of suicide against Faruk Yasin Inamdar, Afan Faruk Inamdar, Juhur Mohammad Sayyad and Tanvir Ibrahim Maniyar at the Lashkar police station.
Based on this complaint, an FIR was lodged against four people under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 108, 308 (2), 3(5), for allegedly harassing Sadiq by demanding Rs 50 lakh from him repeatedly, due to which he died by suicide. “Investigation into this case is on,” said Dighavkar.
Meanwhile, the police said Sadiq was allegedly found to be working with gangster Tipu Pathan, 35, of Mohammadwadi, who is an accused in about 25 serious offences like murder, attempt to murder, and extortion. Pathan and several members of his gang are currently in jail.
The police had intensified action against Tipu Pathan after his video in which he hurled money during a qawwali programme in the city had gone viral in April 2025.
Then, in the same month, the police arrested Tipu and others, including his brother Ejaz, in a land grab and extortion case filed by a woman at the Kalepadal police station.
The police had invoked the MCOCA against the Tipu Pathan gang in this case. Also, his gang member Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim, 29, wanted in this case, was gunned down by the police during an encounter in Solapur on June 15, 2025.
In November, the police invoked MCOCA against the Tipu Pathan gang in another land-grab case filed by another woman from Mumbai at the Kalepadal police station. Police said Sadiq Kapur was named as an accused in this case for his alleged role in the land grab. He has been on the run since then, but was not found dead at his Pune Camp office, the police said.
Meanwhile, in September, police and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jointly razed alleged illegal construction by Tipu Pathan at the Khwaja Manzil building at Sayyad Nagar, using a bulldozer.
