A few months ago, Ram Kapoor opened up about the shoot of a controversial intimate scenewith Sakshi Tanwarduring Bade Ache Lagte Hain. Ram implied that the scene was Ekta Kapoor’s brainchild but soon after his comments gained traction, Ekta shared a cryptic post about “unprofessional actors.” While she did not explicitly name Ram, netizens concluded that the jibe was meant for him. Now, Ram’s wife, actor Gautami Kapoor, has addressed the controversy as she clearly stated that Ram was telling the truth, and said that Ekta was probably talking about someone else. She also spoke about her reaction to the scene, saying she hung up on her husband.
In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Gautami said, “Whatever Ram said was the truth. I think it was just misinterpreted. Maybe she was just talking about another actor from another show or maybe she was talking about something else.” Praising Ekta, Gautami called her a “phenomenal maker” and said that she has always had a “lot of clarity” in her thinking. The said scene was the first on-screen kiss on Indian television and was filmed on Ram and Sakshi Tanwar.
Gautami recalled how she got to know about the intimate scene and shared that she first got a call about the same from Ram at 2:30 am, and upon learning about this, she hung up immediately. “I was a mother who was breastfeeding at that time. So my first reaction was hanging up on him. I was like ‘What?’ I hung up. I didn’t even want to think further,” she said and added that as the night progressed, she thought about it more and realised that these are just actors who are doing their jobs and remembered that a television set is a chaotic place with no place for romance.
“I thought, ‘Why am I putting him in such a tight spot?’” she recalled and said that at that time, Ram was working relentlessly, sometimes for 48 hours. So from the time when she hung up on him to the next morning, she spent time thinking about his predicament. She also shared that Ram told her about the scene after it had been shot. “In the morning when he came back home, I only gave him a hug,” she shared.

Gautami further insisted that Ekta’s jibe could not have been about Ram and added, “What Ekta said about an unprofessional actor, whether it connects the dots to Ram, I am not sure about that, certainly not.” She continued saying that Bade Ache Lagte Hain was a milestone for everyone involved so creating issues over a successful show seems pointless at this point. “By saying all these things and being so petty, what are we trying to achieve?”
When asked if Ram and Gautami had checked in with Ekta since the controversy, Gautami said that they have not been in touch but said that if Ram and Ekta were to see each other, they would definitely give each other a hug.
In an earlier chat on the same YouTube channel, Ram had said, “Ekta is the one who wrote the scene and wanted us to do it. I told Ekta, ‘Are you sure that you want to do this on television?’ We were the first kiss of television, no one had ever done it, it was a big thing. Three generations watch it together – your in laws, husband, and children. But, Ekta was very confident that we had to do it and she trusted us, so I said okay.” He further added, “We shot that scene for two full nights. Whatever uproar happened after that, Ekta had to face it. It wasn’t our idea, it was her idea and we just followed it. Sakshi and I were never awkward with each other despite that. We have a tremendous amount of respect for each other, we have another level of bond.”
Soon after Ram’s interview, Ekta shared a cryptic note that read, ” “Unprofessional actors giving interviews about my shows shud shut up! False information N skewed stories. Can only last till. I talk’…… but there is dignity in silence.” While she did not name anyone, netizens implied it was meant for Ram.
