Veteran actor Rajinikanth, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday, is currently busy shooting for his next film Jailer 2. It is the sequel to his 2023 hit film Jailer. While the other cast members of the highly-anticipated movie are being revealed slowly, Mithun Chakraborty, who is also a part of the film, has now revealed that Shah Rukh Khan will also star in Jailer 2. In a recent Bengali interview, the veteran actor expressed his excitement to share the interesting story with the audience. But, an official announcement about Shah Rukh’s appearance hasn’t been made by the makers yet and the actor’s role is still unknown.
During a conversation with SITI Cinema, Mithun was asked about the stories that are impressing him lately, he replied in Bengali that Jailer 2 is one of them, with an ensemble cast of experienced actors. While listing the names, he said, “Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan, Ramya Krishnan, Shivarajkumar,” hence confirming that the Bollywood superstar will also be a part of the film.
Earlier, Shivarajkumar had revealed that he has started shooting for his role in Jailer 2, in which his appearance will be a little longer, and not just a cameo. While speaking to Behindwoods, he said, “Jailer 2 will somewhat continue from where the 2023 film left off. It’s more than a cameo for me in this film. I have shot for a day. Again, I’ll join on Jan 8th, 9th, and 10th.”
Talking about the original film’s huge box office success, Shiva gave the credit to its director Nelson Dilipkumar for his approach to storytelling and character development. “Jailer was a universal content. Director Nelson cleverly used Superstar Rajinikanth in an age-appropriate role. That’s why the film became a mega hit in every state,” he noted.
Vinayakan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Santhanam also recently confirmed being a part of Jailer 2. Moreover, Meghana Raj Sarja also shared that she will be making her comeback to Tamil cinema with the film, in a pivotal role. Malayalam actor Anna Raajan, popular for her role in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries (2017), will also feature in the movie. Further details about the other star cast members and story are yet to be revealed by the makers.
Directed by Nelson, Jailer 2 is releasing three years after its first instalment Jailer hit the theatres. Rajinikanth will be reprising his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, opposite Ramya Krishnan, who played the role of his wife in the first film. The movie is scheduled to release on the big screen on June 12, 2026. Produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, Jailer 2’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film also stars Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, and Vijay Sethupathi, among others.
