"I laughed and I cried," she recalled to Hello! in an interview published Dec. 8. "I don't know how he pulled it all off, but it was so special. He did the most amazing job – above and beyond. I couldn't have dreamt of such a beautiful setting. It really was a dream come true."
The couple then enjoyed an intimate candlelit dinner, deciding to hold off on telling any of the family and friends their exciting news for an hour or two so that they could soak in the moment for themselves first—before calling Amelia and her husband Greg Mallett.
"We had some champagne and were reminiscing about our nine-year journey together, taking it in," she recounted. "But first was Amelia; it had to be Amelia. We FaceTimed Amelia and Greg, and then we called both our family groups. There were a lot of tears."
The happy couple first met at a dinner party that Greg organized in South Africa, which is where Eliza and her sisters were raised, nearly 15 years ago.
"I'd been single for about two years and wasn't really socialising much," Eliza remembered. "I didn't plan to go, but Amelia and my best friend dragged me there."
As for their wedding plans, Eliza and Channing have yet to nail down a location.
"Some of our best memories have been made in the Mediterranean," she mused. "Then, at the same time, all of our friends and family have done weddings in Cape Town. I've never been to Lake Como, but it looks so beautiful. I think that would be my dream destination, but we still have to visit it first."
