Many people prefer eggs for breakfast, starting their morning with a protein kick that keeps them fuller and energised for the day ahead. Actor Mark Wahlberg is a part of the club, and in a recent social media post, shared that he likes to start his day with 3-4 hard-boiled eggs. “I eat the same breakfast every day🤬 but I feel better every day!! 🤷🏻‍♂️,” he captioned the post, adding that he sometimes likes to pair them with blueberries or salmon for taste and variation.

G Sushma, clinical dietician, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, says eggs are a classic breakfast choice that provide a rich source of protein, which helps in muscle repair and growth, making it an excellent option for those who engage in regular physical activity. Eggs are packed with essential nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, and B12, along with minerals like iron and zinc, healthy fats and antioxidants that support brain and eye health.

Having just eggs has a minimal effect on blood glucose. “Eggs are low-carb, high-protein, with fat—leading to stable, sustained energy leading to very low or no spike in blood sugar. Ideal for insulin sensitivity, weight management, and metabolic health,” she said, further recommending this option for stable blood sugar, fat loss, and mental clarity.

Most nutrients in an egg are present in the yolk. Eating the egg white and yolk together in a whole egg provides the right balance of protein, fat, and calories.

“Instead of having just eggs, you can pair them with greens or avocado, but for higher energy needs or an active lifestyle, go for eggs paired with whole grain or sourdough toast. You can also add fiber (e.g., flax, greens) or fat (butter, avocado) to blunt the spike,” she advised. As such, blueberries and salmon provide additional antioxidant, fibre and protein support, making the meal healthier and keeping you fuller for longer.

However, too much of anything can pose a health risk, she warned.

Dr Samrat Shah, a consultant internist at Bhatia Hospital, Mumbai explained that eggs are high in cholesterol, and consuming too much cholesterol can contribute to an increased risk of heart disease for some individuals. It is important to note that the cholesterol in eggs may affect people differently, and some individuals may be more sensitive to dietary cholesterol than others,” explained Dr Shah.

According to him, it is recommended to consume eggs in moderation as part of a balanced diet, not to go overboard. “If you have specific health concerns or conditions, it is best to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian for personalised advice,” said Dr Shah.
