During the ceremony, 24 officers, subordinate officers and other ranks, including retired BSF personnel, were conferred with police medals for meritorious service in recognition of their dedication and exemplary service.

The Western Command of the Border Security Force (BSF) Wednesday organised an Investiture Ceremony on the BSF Western Command campus in Lakhnaur, Mohali, to honour serving and retired BSF personnel with police medals for meritorious service.

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria graced the occasion as the chief guest. Several senior officers and dignitaries from the civil and police administration of the Tricity were present.

Welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries, ADG (BSF Western Command) Satish S Khandare, IPS, highlighted the glorious legacy of the BSF and its pivotal role in safeguarding the nation. He recalled the force’s contribution during Operation Sindoor and paid homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The Police Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded to Central Armed Police Forces and State Police personnel who have completed more than 18 years of outstanding and unblemished service.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Kataria lauded the BSF’s role in effectively securing the Indo-Pak and Indo-Bangladesh borders during both peace and wartime. He also acknowledged the force’s contribution in maintaining law and order in aid of civil administration and its counter-insurgency operations. Emphasising the importance of the BSF’s role during Operation Sindoor and rescue operations carried out during flood situations in Jammu and Punjab, the Governor said the force had consistently risen to every challenge with professionalism and dedication.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guest congratulated all medal recipients and extended his best wishes to them and their families.
