Drishyam 3 is scheduled for release on April 2, 2026.
Just a few weeks ago, Ajay Devgn and the makers of the Hindi remake of Drishyam took to social media to officially announce the release date of the franchise’s third instalment. The Hindi version of Drishyam 3 is slated to hit theatres on October 2. However, the spotlight has now shifted to the original Malayalam franchise, as its creators will release the highly anticipated sequel first. On Wednesday, the makers of the original Malayalam Drishyam officially announced that Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, will release worldwide on April 2, 2026, six months ahead of the Hindi adaptation.
Taking to social media, Mohanlal shared a 43-second video on X announcing the release date. The post was accompanied by a caption that read, “Years passed. The past didn’t. #Drishyam3 | Worldwide Release | April 2, 2026.”
The teaser clip features animated visuals that revisit key motifs and clues from the previous two films in the franchise. These include the yellow car belonging to Varun, the boy killed in the first part, his mobile phone, the shovel used by Georgekutty, Mohanlal’s character, to bury Varun’s body. The visuals gradually culminate in a close-up of Georgekutty’s eyes, before revealing him standing with his family, wife Rani George and daughters Anju and Anu, once again united in their attempt to protect themselves and keep the truth buried. Drishyam 3 is expected to be the final instalment of the franchise.
Last month, director Jeethu Joseph had also taken to social media to share a post confirming that the film’s shoot had been completed. The post featured the entire cast and crew posing together as filming wrapped. With the announcement now official, anticipation surrounding the third part has reached a fever pitch, as audiences are eager to see what ultimately happens to Georgekutty, whether karma finally catches up with him, or if he once again succeeds in deceiving both the characters within the story and the viewers watching it unfold.
Meanwhile, the Hindi adaptation of Drishyam 3 has also been making headlines, albeit for less favourable reasons. Akshaye Khanna, who was introduced in the second part of the Hindi franchise, reportedly decided to exit the third instalment amid the success of his gangster action film Dhurandhar. Reacting publicly to the actor’s exit, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak expressed his displeasure in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama. He stated that “success has gone to Akshaye Khanna’s head.” He further added, “I have suffered losses because of his behaviour. I am going to take legal action. I have already sent him a legal notice; he’s yet to reply to it.”
Pathak went on to say, “He thinks he’s a superstar now. He told us, ‘Dhurandhar is working because of me’. He needs to understand that multiple factors worked in favour of Dhurandhar.”
