DPR for Musi Rejuvenation project Phase-I to be ready in few days: Telangana CM Revanth

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the first phase of the ambitious Musi Rejuvenation Project taken up by the Telangana Government is nearing completion.

The DPR for the first phase — covering 21 km from Osmansagar to Bapughat (9.5 km) and Himayatsagar to Bapughat (11.5 km) — will be ready in the next few days and a clear picture on the scope of works will emerge before Sankranti. This will be followed by preparation of project estimates before the financial year end, which is March 31, and thereafter works would be launched on the first phase.

The State Government has sought financial assistance of ₹4,100 crore from the Asian Development Bank which got approval in principle and the Central Government has also permitted the preparation of the DPR for the first phase, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said. The State Government planned to arrange for a PowerPoint Presentation on the salient features of the first phase of the project in the Assembly once the DPR is received.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government had embarked upon the project envisaging a cleaner Musi river relieving Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts permanently from pollution related problems. This is in addition to promoting night economy in the cleaner world class environs, which will further boost the State’s image globally. “Nalgonda district is bearing the brunt of pollution. It has twin problems of fluoride affected waters and pollution flowing through Musi river. It is like God himself has cursed the people of the district,” he said, participating in a debate on Musi Rejuvenation project that come up during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly on Friday (January 2, 2026).

In a detailed explanation to queries posed by the members, the Chief Minister said the Government proposed to develop the 55 km stretch from Gandipet to Gowrelli with an elevated corridor, while the project envisages linking of four rivers, Musi, Isa, Krishna and Godavari for mitigating the drinking water problems of the city on a permanent basis.

Mr. Revanth Reddy said the Government would simultaneously take up Gandhi Sarovar project, with an iconic 150-ft Gandhi statue, for propagating Mahatma Gandhi’s ideal of winning wars with peace. Being developed on 500 acre land, the project involved 200 acre defence land and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh agreed to alienate 55 acres in the Government’s favour initially. “We are insisting for another 50 acre land to start with so that the project work can be commenced,” he said.

The Chief Minister exhorted the MLAs from the opposition parties to visit places where riverfront development took place across the globe so that they could give constructive suggestions to the Government on the improvements that could be made to the proposed project. The Government was prepared to bear the cost of the visit if need be, he said recalling that some of the MLAs could not accompany the delegation sent by the Government to countries like South Korea in the past to study similar projects.
