US-based AI coding major Cursor has introduced an India-only subscription plan, Cursor Start, priced at ₹649 per month. The launch comes weeks after SpaceX agreed to acquire the startup for $60 Bn in an all-stock deal expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. Cursor Start, which is designed for everyday building, sits at the intersection of its free and pro plans.

The company’s blog post noted that India has the highest concentration of power users on the platform, with developers running more agent requests per capita than anywhere else. Perplexity AI also partnered with Airtel for India distribution last year, and Microsoft is expanding Copilot with local data processing commitments.

At the heart of this is the growing traction of AI in the Indian tech ecosystem. The Indian AI ecosystem is projected to grow to $126 Bn by 2030. Amid this, more Indian entrepreneurs and developers are focusing on building on top of the AI models offered by the aforementioned global players.
