The US is carrying out strikes inside Venezuela, a US official told Reuters. The US media also reported that the US military was behind a series of strikes against the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday.

President of Colombia Gustavo Petro, posted on X, "Right now they are bombing Caracas. Alert to the whole world, they have attacked Venezuela. They are bombing with missiles. The OAS and the UN must meet immediately."

Sources told FOX News that the US attacked Venezuela as several explosions were heard in the capital Caracas early Saturday.

For months, US President Donald Trump had threatened that he could soon order strikes on targets on Venezuelan land.

The US also seized sanctioned oil tankers off the coast of Venezuela, and Trump ordered a blockade of others in a move that seemed designed to put a tighter chokehold on the South American country’s economy.

Besides, Maduro has been charged with narco-terrorism in the US. The CIA was behind a drone strike last week at a docking area believed to have been used by Venezuelan drug cartels in what was the first known direct operation on Venezuelan soil since the US began strikes on boats in September.

In the statement released early Saturday, Venezuela’s government called on its supporters to take to the streets.

“People to the streets!” the statement read, as per AP. “The Bolivarian Government calls on all social and political forces in the country to activate mobilisation plans and repudiate this imperialist attack,” it added.

The statement added that President Nicolás Maduro had “ordered all national defense plans to be implemented” and declared “a state of external disturbance.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) banned US commercial flights in Venezuela airspace over "ongoing military activity" ahead of explosions in Caracas, AP reported.

The government of President Nicolas Maduro said in a statement early Saturday that Venezuela rejects "military aggression" by the United States.

As per the statement, the attacks took place in the capital of Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.

This prompted Maduro to declare a national emergency and call on social and political forces to "activate mobilization plans."

According to the Associated Press, Venezuela’s government accused the US of attacking civilian and military installations in multiple states.

A series of loud explosions were reported across Venezuela's capital Caracas early Saturday. According to CNN, multiple blasts were heard in different parts of the city, with the first explosion occurring at around 1:50 am local time.
