As for Teyana, the 35-year-old was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress alongside Wicked: For Good’s Ariana Grande, Weapons’ Amy Madigan, Sinners’ Wunmi Mosaku and Sentimental Value’s Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, though the trophy went to Amy.

The show was the topper on an incredible year for the “Gonna Love Me” singer—who shares kids Iman "Junie" Tayla, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert—as she previously shared how amazed she was at the recognition she received for the film after so long in the entertainment industry.

“You can see my patience being in this game since I was 15, doing a little bit of everything,” Teyana told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “This moment hits a lot harder than it would’ve if everything had gone my way when I wanted it to.”

In addition to acting, Teyana has made a name for herself as a singer (with four studio albums), a model, a choreographer for Beyoncé and even a reality star, appearing on a 2007 episode of the MTV show My Super Sweet 16.

As for where she is in career right now, Teyana feels everything has fallen into place perfectly, adding, “There’s no such thing as complaining about answered prayers.”

She joked, “Do you know how dope it is to be shown this much love from people who don’t know you from a can of paint?”
