Vrusshabha Box Office Collection Day 3: In a major setback for Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, his latest “pan-Indian” epic fantasy actioner Vrusshabha has crashed and burned at the box office and is poised to become one of the biggest disasters in recent times. On its first Saturday in theatres, the movie earned less than Rs 25 lakh nationwide, making it a bigger bomb than the superstar’s widely panned directorial debut Barroz 3D, which hit the screens around the same time last year. If Vrusshabha doesn’t pick up pace in the coming days, it might even end up with a lifetime gross of less than Rs 3 crore, making it one of the biggest Indian disasters of 2025.
On its third day in cinema halls, Vrusshabha registered an India nett collection of just Rs 24 lakh, taking its domestic total to a deplorable Rs 1.16 crore, according to rough data from industry tracker Sacnilk. The movie’s performance thus far has been far worse than Mohanlal’s recent disasters like Barroz and Monster (2022). While Barroz minted Rs 1.25 crore on its first Saturday, Monster had earned Rs 1 crore. Although Vrusshabha has fared better than the superstar’s Alone (2023), which earned just Rs 8 lakh domestically on the corresponding day, this isn’t enough to bring respite for the makers, since the epic fantasy actioner was mounted on a massive budget of reportedly Rs 70 crore and released in multiple languages.
While the Malayalam version raked in just Rs 15 lakh on day 3, the Telugu edition minted Rs 6 lakh, the Hindi one Rs 2 lakh, and the Kannada version Rs 1 lakh. During the day, Vrusshabha witnessed an overall occupancy of just 9.05 per cent in the Malayalam market. While the morning shows commenced with 4.65 per cent occupancy, the rate improved as the day unfolded, but only nominally, registering 6.66 per cent in the afternoon, 8.42 per cent in the evening, and 16.47 per cent during night screenings. While Vrusshabha recorded an overall occupancy of 10.52 per cent in the Hindi market, the figure stood at 14.23 per cent in Telugu and 8.75 per cent in Kannada. Also starring Samarjit Lankesh, Nayan Sarika, and Ragini Dwivedi in key roles, Vrusshabha is helmed by Nanda Kishore.
The movie’s global gross has only reached Rs 1.25 crore as of 5 pm on Sunday, December 28. It may be mentioned here that even as Barroz wrapped up its theatrical run with a worldwide collection of Rs 15.1 crore, Monster had registered Rs 6.97 crore. For Mohanlal, who had been on a success streak since the beginning of this year — with all three of his earlier-released films, L2: Empuraan (Rs 265.5 crore), Thudarum (Rs 234.5 crore), and Hridayapoorvam (Rs 76.25 crore), in which he played the lead, earning big at the box office — Vrusshabha’s colossal bombing is nothing short of a blot.
