The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducted its convocation ceremony simultaneously across 15 locations in the country on Monday. The ceremony was held to confer membership certificates on newly qualified Chartered Accountants and felicitate rank holders.

The event marked the formal induction of 17,800 newly enrolled professionals into the chartered accountancy profession. The ceremonies across centres were conducted concurrently, with council members of ICAI overseeing proceedings at each location.

The convocation was formally inaugurated from New Delhi, where the chief guest addressed newly inducted members in the presence of ICAI’s president, vice-president, secretary and members of the central and regional councils. According to an official statement, the convocation is held twice every year to award certificates of membership to candidates who qualify through the institute’s examination and training process.

Instead of a consolidated national figure, ICAI shared a region-wise distribution of newly enrolled chartered accountants across the country. The figures below are based on data released during the convocation proceedings, according to an official statement.

NOTE: The above figures represent candidates who have ‘applied’ for enrolment between July 16, 2025, and November 30, 2025.

According to an official statement, the convocation was organised at New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Ernakulam, Vijayawada, Ahmedabad, Pune, Indore, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Ludhiana.

The distribution reflects enrolments across ICAI’s regional councils, covering candidates who completed the examination cycle and training requirements in the recent session.

Speakers at the convocation highlighted the expanding scope of chartered accountancy beyond traditional audit and taxation roles. According to an official statement, emphasis was placed on the profession’s relevance in public finance management, transparency, accountability mechanisms, and digital governance systems, including at local government levels.

References were also made to the increasing engagement of chartered accountants with Panchayati Raj institutions, public sector audits and compliance frameworks, in line with evolving regulatory and governance needs.

ICAI stated that the convocation serves as a formal transition point for candidates completing the chartered accountancy qualification process. The institute reiterated that membership entails adherence to ethical standards, professional conduct regulations and continuous professional education requirements.
