In 2024, Govinda accidentally shot himselfand while his fans were quite worried when they first heard about it, the actor recovered soon after. Now, his niece, actor Ragini Khanna, has opened up about the incident and shared what transpired that day. She was also asked about the events that ld up to the shooting. Ragini is the daughter of Govinda’s sister, Kamini Khanna.
Recalling the night when her mother received a call about Govinda shooting himself, Ragini told Vickey Lalwani, “My mother told me she had gotten a call saying that Chichi mama has gotten shot. We were shocked at that time, then my mother told me that he shot himself.” Ragini shared that she chose to go a little later to meet Govinda at the hospital in order to calm herself down. “My mother rushed to the hospital and I was shocked. I had a very emotionally reactive response. So, I decided to go a little later to prevent creating more tension with my reaction. I went 3 hours late. My mother and brother went immediately.”
When asked about fans not being convinced by the theory that Govinda shot himself, Ragini responded, “There were 200 cops at the hospital itself and 50 cops were outside his house to know what happened. How can you escape that kind of a situation if it is not genuine? I have full faith in our police. They have done their due diligence and they got satisfactory results. Because if somebody else would have been involved, he couldn’t have escaped after doing something like this to such a big personality. He was fine in a month’s time, he stood on his feet in a month’s time.”
After the incident, Govinda held a press conference and said, “I was getting ready to leave for the show… for Kolkata. It was in the morning, around 4.45-5 am. Woh giri aur chal padi (the gun fell and misfired). I felt a jhatka (I was shocked) and when I saw… there was a fountain (of blood).”
When asked why he felt the need to possess a loaded gun, Govinda explained, “When we are getting ready in the morning itself feels like whatever you are doing in haste is right… Main thoda sa mast raha karta hoon (I’m a bit careless/carefree by nature), so I felt nothing was wrong. I am a bit sahaj (easy-going) I didn’t think something like this would happen. But one should be careful. I hope something like this doesn’t happen to anyone, they can learn from my incident.”
