Caleb Friesen, a Canadian tech influencer who has been living in India for the last eight years, shared an elaborate video explaining why he thinks moving to the country was one of the best decisions he has ever made. In his last video of 2025, Friesen highlights how India has progressed compared to India in its 90s and early 2000s.
The influencer begins by highlighting how several foreign nationals come to India and create videos on a “narrative” that shows the country in a bad light. “They focus on stuff that’s falling apart, stuff that’s messy and dirty and especially travel influencers! They come to India and focus on that stuff,” Friesen says in the video.
“Story that they are telling the world that India is a dirty, stinky country! That actually creates an environment that India is just an underpriced asset,” he adds.
Further, Friesen emphasises the growing tech industry in India, the growing economy, and the evolving business landscape. “I think I have found this part of the world that’s going to change so much in the next decade,” he says, adding, “If you look at India in the ‘90s and the early 2000s and you compare it to the India of today, there has been so much progress.”

The video quickly gained traction, amassing over a lakh views and prompting a range of reactions. “I go to India twice a year and each time I’m like whoa that’s new, whoa that’s new, whoa this airport wasn’t here before etc … I do understand how it is a total shock for a first time traveler, meaning a total shock to the system. Guess India is an acquired taste,” a user wrote.
“Thank you for being a positive influence on India and I hope India is doing the same to you. Your constructive criticism is what was needed & you articulate it in a way Indians would react positively to it. Some of us do get inspired to do our bit too,” another user commented.
“India won’t chance cos the people won’t change. Tragedy of the Commons is an Indian thing,” a third user reacted.
