Fifteen days after the demolition of over 150 houses and sheds deemed illegal in Kogilu Layout, Fakir Colony and Waseem Layout, the Yelahanka police registered an FIR against four persons on January 4 for allegedly selling government land and allowing unauthorised construction in north Bengaluru.
According to the authorities, the demolition was carried out to recover land belonging to the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), which was meant for a solid waste processing unit.
Based on a complaint filed by Santoshkumar Kaddi, engineer with the BSWML, the police booked Vijay, Waseemullah Baig, Muni Anjinappa and Robin charging them under various sections of Karnataka Land Revenue Act .
According to the complaint, government land measuring 14 acres and 36 guntas, which had been transferred for municipal solid waste management purposes, was encroached upon, leading to delay in the execution of approved infrastructure projects.
The land was earmarked for the construction of bio-methanisation units, dry waste processing units, plastic waste processing units and sanitary waste processing units.
In 2023, tenders were floated for these projects, followed by release of work orders.
However, during field inspections, it was found that around four acres of the allotted land had been illegally occupied by unauthorised hutments and makeshift structures. The encroachments obstructed implementation of the waste processing projects, according to the complaint.
Following official directions, a joint eviction drive was carried out on December 20, 2025, by BSWML officials, the Revenue Department, and the police, with support from the Bengaluru North taluk administration. During the operation, around 160 illegal makeshift houses were removed from the site.
Inquiries revealed that Vijay, Waseem, Muni Anjinappa and Robin had allegedly taken money from some people and assisted in facilitating and maintaining the unauthorised houses.
Another FIR has been filed against five persons for staging a protest near the demolition site in support of the people who lost their homes. This, according to the complaint filed by Head Constable Shankar Naik, created a law and order issue, and violations of a order of the High Court of Karnataka.
