Vrusshabha box office collection day 1: The film earned Rs 61 lakhs.
Vrusshabha box office collection Day 1: Mohanlal has had a remarkable year at the box office. Out of his three major releases, two films feature among the highest-grossing Malayalam films of the year, while the third also finds a place in the extended top 10 money-spinners of the industry in 2025. However, the veteran actor has been unable to end the year on a high note. His latest fantasy actioner, Vrusshabha, which released on Christmas, has performed severely underwhelmingly at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film managed to earn only Rs 61 lakhs net on its opening day, a figure that clearly reflects the disappointing audience turnout.
The gross collection, too, has failed to impress. Early trade estimates suggest that the film earned just around Rs 70 lakhs on day one. Vrusshabha was released in three languages, Malayalam, Hindi, and Telugu, but collections from the non-Malayalam versions remained minimal. The Hindi version reportedly collected around Rs 2 lakhs, while the Telugu version earned approximately Rs 13 lakhs. The majority of the revenue came from the Malayalam market, contributing Rs 46 lakhs, which itself fell short of the Rs 50 lakh mark.
Unsurprisingly, this marks Mohanlal’s lowest opening in the last few years. His recent releases such as L2: Empuraan (Rs 24.5 crore), Thudarum (Rs 5.25 crore), and Hridayapoorvam (Rs 3.25 crore) opened to significantly stronger numbers. Even his box-office failure Big Brother, released before the pandemic, had a better opening with Rs 1.8 crore. The same trend applies to films like Monster (Rs 1.8 crore) and Aaraattu (Rs 3.62 crore). In fact, even his disastrous directorial venture Barroz 3D, released in December last year, opened to Rs 3.45 crore, far ahead of Vrusshabha. The only film whose opening-day collection Vrusshabha has managed to surpass is Mohanlal’s mystery thriller Alone, released in 2023, which earned Rs 45 lakhs.
If the trade response has been disappointing, critical reception has not offered much relief either. The film has been criticised for its archaic storytelling. It now remains to be seen whether Vrusshabha witnesses any pickup over the coming weekend or continues to decline further at the ticket window.
