What happened

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services, a version of its AI assistant designed for financial institutions that combines its latest GPT-6 Astra model with built-in financial data and tools for research, modelling and client work. The launch comes as AI companies increasingly target regulated industries, where access to trusted data, security and governance are critical.

Why it matters

ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on the security controls of ChatGPT Enterprise, including role-based access, encryption and workspace management. The product includes financial datasets from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase, covering earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private-company information. OpenAI said the data is indexed and hosted on its infrastructure to improve retrieval and allow users to trace figures and claims to their sources.

The offering also includes data from Quartr and other providers. Financial firms with existing subscriptions can connect them through integrations with providers including S&P Global, LSEG, MSCI, Moody’s and FactSet, allowing users to access data they are already entitled to through their ChatGPT sign-in.

What to watch

GPT-6 Astra is designed to handle financial documents, tables, figures and supporting notes, and can use those inputs for analysis before generating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, OpenAI said. Firms can also publish approved Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates through an administrative interface, allowing teams to generate client materials in their organisation’s formats and styles. For financial institutions, OpenAI is positioning data controls as a central part of the product.

The product supports more than 50 connectors, including Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet and Intapp, while OpenAI said it has optimised commonly used financial-services connectors to reduce the need for users to troubleshoot data requests. LSEG, which distributes Reuters news, financial data and real-time alerts to financial professionals, is among the providers connected to the offering. ChatGPT for Financial Services is currently available to eligible financial institutions, OpenAI said.
