The crime statistics released by the Pimpri Chinchwad police for 2025 show the highest ever seizure of illegal firearms and a significant rise in cybercrime arrests, along with an increase in the reported rape cases. Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey also highlighted that focused enforcement has led to improved detection rates and recoveries in several property-related offences.

On Wednesday, Choubey addressed the media on the crime statistics of the Pimpri Chinchwad police for 2025, primarily comparing the data with the 2024 figures. He further briefed the media on various infrastructure development efforts for the Pimpri Chinchwad commissionerate, carved out of Pune City and Pune Rural jurisdictions in 2019.

The seizures of the illegal firearms by Pimpri Chinchwad has reported a continuous upward trend over the last six years with 2025 reporting the highest number of illegal firearm seizures of 243 as compared to 215 and 196 in 2024 and 2023 respectively. “We can confidently say that because of our dedicated action against the illegal firearms, the incidents of street crimes involving these weapons have shown an decrease. Intensive drives against illegal firearms were conducted by our teams which have shown these results.” Choubey said.

Speaking about chain snatching cases, Choubey said, “The offences of chain snatching are looked at very closely and detected on priority basis as they have social impact. The cases of chain snatching have shown a reduction of around 14 per cent from 87 to 75. However these numbers are significantly lower than the 2022 figures when 139 cases were reported in our jurisdiction. The detection of chain snatching cases have seen an uptick from 57 per cent in 2024 to 83 per cent in 2025. This rise in the detection percentage is due to very good efforts taken by detection branches of various police stations and the teams from Property Cell of the Crime Branch. In all these detected cases we have not just arrested suspects but have also recovered the robbed valuables.”

“There is significant improvement in the detection of property offences. All the teams from Pimpri Chinchwad police have taken dedicated efforts toward cracking these cases. For example offences of house break-ins are very difficult to detect as the perpetrators flee to varied locations after committing offences,” Choubey said. The data shows that while the number of house break-ins went down from 311 in 2024 to 285 in 2025, the rate of detection increased from 39 per cent to 51 per cent.

Choubey highlighted the work by the dedicated Cyber crime police station of Pimpri Chinchwad police which was set up in 2024. “Delivering excellent results in detection of the sensitive Cyber crime cases, the Cyber crime police station which had arrested 82 accused in 2024 and arrested 144 in 2025, registering a rise of 75 per cent in the arrests. However the highlight of their work was in the effort of returning the defrauded funds to the victims. In 2024, the Cyber police had ensured a return of Rs 3.67 crores and in 2025 this figure was Rs 18.5 crores, a rise of Rs 14.8 crore or 404 per cent.” he said.

Pimpri Chinchwad police registered 172 narcotics cases in 2025 as compared to 143 in 2024. In 2025 drugs worth Rs 4.36 crores were seized.
