Young graduates should guide AI transformation responsibly, says scientist

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming all sectors, including education, healthcare, industry and governance. As future leaders, young graduates must guide this transformation responsibly. Technology should enhance human capability, without ever losing humanity, ethics and accountability,” the former Director of ISRO Satellite Centre Mylswamy Annadurai has said.

He was delivering the convocation address at GM University’s first convocation in Davangere on Sunday.

“Lifelong learning is no longer an option but a necessity in today’s world,” he said and added that continuous learning and adaptability are the foundations of success.

“True success lies not only in professional achievement but also in being a good human being and fulfilling responsibilities toward family and society. Big dreams, strong goals, passion and dedication are the keys to success,” he said and urged graduates to give back to the nation with gratitude for the opportunities India has provided to them.

Referring to ISRO’s achievements such as Chandrayaan 3 and the Mars Orbiter Mission, he said that these missions prove that what seems impossible can be made possible.

“ISRO teams succeeded in Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Aditya L1 missions on their very first attempts despite low budgets, limited time and constrained resources. Similarly, Chandrayaan 3’s successful soft landing near the Moon’s south pole showcased to the world that Indian scientists can achieve greatness even with limited resources, inspiring millions,” he said.

He urged young people to become innovators and develop the spirit of inquiry. “We should realise that innocence and innovation walk together,” he said.

“A nation’s strength lies in its human resources. Young graduates can play a vital role in national development. They should transform challenges into opportunities and serve the nation with confidence, integrity and professional ethics,” he said.

“Big dreams, strong goals, passion and dedication are the keys to success,” he said. He stressed the importance of balancing personal and professional life and warned that “forgetting simple joys leads to loss of meaning in life.”

Dr. Annadurai said that he is aware that GM University has successfully fulfilled its commitment by providing high-quality education in a technology-enabled environment, while adding value to students’ knowledge with high standards of integrity and efficiency.

He expressed full confidence that the graduates are worthy alumni of this prestigious institution.

GM University, established, funded and managed by the Shreeshaila Educational Trust, is building a high-quality academic legacy in teaching, training and research,’ he said.

The former Union Minister G.M. Siddeshwar awarded gold medals instituted in the name of G. Mallikarjunappa to Swatimuttu S.R. (MCA) and Sanketh S. (MBA).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Siddeshwar said that GM University is working with the noble intention of uplifting rural and economically disadvantaged students and supporting their educational progress.

He noted that GM University has earned a strong reputation across five-six districts around Davangere. He also reminded youths working abroad not to forget their responsibility towards their parents who worked hard for their future.

Presiding over the program, GM University Chancellor G.M. Lingaraju congratulated the degree and gold medal recipients.

As many as 318 students received degrees, including 263 MBA students, 44 MCA students and 11 M.Com students.

The former Public Relations Officer of the DRDO Administrative Board K. Divyanand, Vice-Chancellor S.R. Shankapal, Pro Vice-Chancellor H.D. Maheshappa, Sunil Kumar B.S., Assistant Professor Ganesh G. Tilve, officers, directors, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and parents and others were present.
