Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would inaugurate the Sadarmat barrage in Nirmal district. The State government is committed to completing all pending irrigation projects, including the Chanaka-Korata barrage in Adilabad, on a priority basis.

He said that ₹70 crore was released towards compensation for land oustees of the Chanaka-Korata barrage, to the PD account of the Adilabad District Collector.

Responding to questions raised by BJP MLAs in the Winter Session of the Assembly during Question Hour on Saturday (January 3, 2025), the Irrigation Minister said that an on-site visit would be conducted to inspect the progress of the Chanaka-Korata barrage after the inauguration of the Sadarmat barrage.

“A special review meeting will be held to expedite the works of all pending irrigation projects in the erstwhile Adilabad district,” Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said, adding that Package 28, taken up as part of the Pranahitha-Chevella Lift Irrigation Project, would also be completed by allocating the required funds after the review meeting.

Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar said that ₹792 crore is required for the completion of the Chanaka-Korata barrage, taken up on the Penganga river to irrigate 51,000 acres of land. He slammed the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government for the inordinate delay in executing the project. “The project has not been completed even after 10 years. ₹12,144 crore had already been spent the project,” he said, criticising the State government for the delay in paying compensation to farmers who parted with their lands for the projects.

Sirpur MLA Palavai Harish Babu stressed the need to release ₹135 crore for the Jainathpur project taken up under the centre-sponsored Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP). Mudhole MLA Rama Rao Pawar also urged the Government to complete the Pipri Lift Irrigation Project in his constituency, while Armoor MLA emphasised the need to modernise the Nizam Sagar project canals by allocating ₹1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore.
