BJP president wants SIR in Telangana to weed out ‘bogus votes’ - The Hindu

BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday emphasized the need for the Election Commission (EC) to implement the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the State as part of electoral reforms.

Mr. Rao alleged that there are numerous illegal votes linked to migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Rohingyas in Hyderabad and across Telangana. He asserted that bogus votes must be eliminated to ensure clean voter lists, which are essential for strengthening democracy.

Speaking to the media after meeting the party’s National Working President Nitin Nabin Sinha in New Delhi, Mr. Rao said the discussions focused on strengthening the party in Telangana, the prevailing political scenario and upcoming organizational programmes.

He noted that Mr. Nabin Sinha shared valuable insights and suggestions aimed at consolidating the party’s presence in the State. “He emphasized the need for focused initiatives, effective action plans and collective efforts to achieve significant results and bring the party to power,” Mr. Rao said. The State president also announced that Mr. Nabin Sinha will visit Telangana next month, adding that the visit will give a major boost to the party’s growth and momentum.

On the ongoing Telangana Assembly sessions, the former MLC demanded that the Congress government conduct the sessions for at least one month to allow comprehensive discussions on critical issues and public concerns. He criticized the State government for diverting public attention from its failures by introducing irrelevant topics. “Such tactics are aimed at sidetracking real issues affecting the people,” he maintained.

Mr. Rao urged former Chief Minister and BRS Opposition leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao to attend the Assembly sessions for the sake of ‘democratic accountability’. “Portraying Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao’s token attendance as an extraordinary event is inappropriate,” he said, adding that creating hype around his presence is against democratic values.

The BJP leader further cautioned his own party leaders to align with party principles and refrain from indulging in ‘media leaks’, warning that such actions would only weaken the organization. “Party leaders and cadre must adhere to discipline and ideology,” he added.
