India is moving rapidly towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with the global expectations increasingly centred on the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot on Sunday (January 11, 2026).

“The numbers clearly show this. Amid great global uncertainty, we are seeing certainty in India,” Mr. Modi said, adding, “There is political stability in the country.”

The Prime Minister stated that inflation is under control and highlighted India’s position as the world’s largest producer of milk and vaccines. He also said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognised the country as a key engine of global economic growth.

Reiterating the government’s guiding mantra of “reform, perform and transform”, Mr. Modi said that India today is the largest consumer of data globally, while the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) has emerged as a real-time digital payment platform of global scale.

“There was a time when India imported mobile phones. Today, we are the world’s second-largest manufacturer of mobile handsets,” he said.

Mr. Modi also highlighted India’s urban infrastructure progress, noting that the country ranks among the top three globally in terms of metro rail networks, he said.

Turning to Gujarat, the Prime Minister said that all regions of the State have their own strengths and that it continues to remain the preferred destination for investors.

The country’s largest semiconductor fabrication facility is getting ready in Gujarat’s Dholera, he said.

In addition to infrastructure, Mr. Modi emphasised that an industry-ready workforce is the need of the hour and added that Gujarat has the required skills to meet the demand.

Calling on investors to seize the opportunities available in Gujarat, the Prime Minister quipped that if they missed out by arriving late, they should not blame him.

He described the State as a unique blend of nature, adventure, culture, and rich heritage.
