Senior police officers led teams on the ground to ensure effective surveillance, swift action and zero escape for violators.
The Mohali police carried out a night-long operation against individuals and networks involved in unlawful mining activities at multiple identified hotspots across the district during the intervening night of December 26 and 27.
The special operation was conducted simultaneously within the jurisdiction of Sohana, Majri and Dera Bassi police stations. Senior police officers led teams on the ground to ensure effective surveillance, swift action and zero escape for violators.
Speaking to media persons at Majri police station, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans said that as a result of the intensive drive, “20 FIRs have been registered and 15 accused persons were arrested on the spot”. He added that substantial machinery and vehicles used in illegal mining were seized, including “one JCB machine, 14 loaded tippers and two tractor-trolleys carrying illegally mined material”.
SSP Hans said that the illegally extracted material recovered from dumping sites has been assessed by the Geology and Mining Department for initiating further legal and administrative action. “Notices have also been issued to crusher owners and other persons suspected to be involved in these illegal activities,” he said.
The operation was personally led by SSP Hans and executed with the support of three Superintendents of Police (SPs), four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), seven Station House Officers (SHOs) and nearly 250 police personnel of various ranks, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the targeted areas.
Reiterating the district police’s firm resolve, SSP Hans said, “The Mohali police follows a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining. Such enforcement drives will continue in a sustained and intensified manner to protect natural resources and uphold the rule of law.”
He emphasised that the district police remain fully committed to strict enforcement, environmental protection and ensuring accountability of all those involved in illegal mining activities.
