In a bid to strengthen the city’s security apparatus, Mohali is expanding its surveillance network by installing more CCTV cameras at key locations. Under the first phase of the project, around 400 CCTV cameras were installed at 20 major intersections across the city, helping the police in crime control as well as traffic monitoring. Officials said that in several cases, footage from these cameras has enabled the police to take swift and effective action.

Work is now underway on the second phase of the project, under which CCTV cameras are planned to be installed at nine additional major junctions in the city. Cameras have already been installed at four locations, while work at the remaining five intersections is expected to begin shortly. The entire project is being implemented by the Punjab Police Housing Corporation with the objective of making Mohali a safer and smarter city.

According to police officials, installation of CCTV cameras at the newly planned junction on Airport Road may take some time as construction work at the site is currently in progress. They said that once the construction is completed, the location will also be integrated into the city’s CCTV network. The cameras being installed are equipped with advanced technology to ensure clear surveillance during both day and night.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police Housing Corporation has written to the Senior Superintendent of Police requesting alternative locations for installing CCTV cameras at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, and the CP-67 area, where junction construction work is currently underway. In the letter, the corporation stated that installation at the originally identified spots is not feasible at present due to ongoing construction and sought suitable alternative locations to ensure that the city’s security arrangements are not affected.

The CCTV cameras under the second phase are planned to cover locations, including Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, CP-67, Phase 3A near Khalsa College, the Jagatpura entry point and the Chhat Light Point area. When contacted, Punjab Police Housing Corporation Chief Engineer Ranjodh Singh said that work at the remaining five junctions has already been initiated and will be completed within the next few days.
