The Telangana Legislative Assembly’s winter session will commence on December 29, with the proceedings focusing largely on irrigation issues, particularly the sharing of Krishna and Godavari river waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, sources said.
Assembly sessions will not be held on December 30 and 31 and January 1, and will resume on January 2. During the session, the government plans to take up discussions on Telangana’s water with Andhra Pradesh, pending issues with the Centre, alleged illegal diversion of water by Andhra Pradesh, and steps taken by the State government to prevent projects being executed without statutory approvals.
At a meeting of Ministers held at the Command Control Centre here on Monday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has reportedly said the policies followed by the BRS government on irrigation should be exposed during the Assembly session. He also stressed the need to clearly explain the alleged injustice done to Telangana in the utilisation of Krishna and Godavari waters during the BRS regime.
The Chief Minister also asked party leaders to strongly counter what he termed as false propaganda by BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao on the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project and to highlight the alleged injustice done to the region during the previous government’s tenure.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the outcome of the recent Gram Panchayat elections and has reportedly described the results as satisfactory. He congratulated the Ministers for the party’s performance and called for sustained effort with the same intensity in the forthcoming Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC), Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The three-hour review meeting also discussed the recently held Telangana Rising Global Summit-2024 y held Global Summit, while issues relating to party posts and nominated positions were said to have come up for discussion during the meeting.
