Akshaye Khanna in a still from Dhurandhar.
Akshaye Khanna became one of the most talked-about actors after his role as Rehman Dakait went viral in Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar. The film has broken several box office records, leaving behind blockbusters like Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan to become the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. While most audiences have already watched the film in theatres and many are still heading out to catch it on the big screen, Akshaye’s brother Rahul Khanna has not seen the film yet.
In a recent interaction with Mid-Day, Rahul shared the reason behind not watching his brother’s biggest hit so far. “I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m waiting for him to show it to me,” Rahul said. Lauding Akshaye’s look in the film, he added, “Anything he wears looks great, so I’m sure he looks fantastic in the film.”
Rahul Khanna is the second son of late legendary actor Vinod Khanna. Earlier, in an old interaction with TOI, Akshaye spoke about his bond with his brother and described their relationship as being independent of their parents. “In that sense, it hasn’t changed. But the immediate family for an individual is parents and siblings, and once that starts getting smaller, you hold to what is left even more,” he said.
For the unversed, Vinod Khanna was married to Geetanjali Khanna, the mother of Akshaye and Rahul. However, Vinod left his family and acting career to follow spiritual leader Osho and moved to the USA to live at Osho’s ashram. He later returned to India in 1990 and married Kavita Daftary. The couple had two children together — Sakshi and Shraddha Khanna.
Like in Dhurandhar, Akshaye also played an iconic negative role as Akbar in Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. The film released in the early months of 2025 and remained the highest earner of the year until Dhurandhar broke its record in December. With the massive success of both Chhaava and Dhurandhar in 2025, Akshaye became the second Bollywood actor to cross a cumulative Rs 2000 crore at the box office within a single calendar year, after Shah Rukh Khan.
At the box office, Dhurandhar’s India nett collection currently stands at Rs 806.80 crore, and the film is steadily inching closer to crossing the Rs 1200 crore mark worldwide.
