The Chittoor district police recorded a significant 26 per cent reduction in overall crime in 2025, with a total of 5,216 registered cases, compared to 7,034 in 2024.

Addressing a press conference on the annual crime report here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi attributed the improvement to strengthened community policing, focused enforcement, and extensive use of technology.

The SP said that crimes against women decreased by 12.63 per cent, while economic offences dropped by 21.65 per cent.

Cybercrime showed a significant decline of over 40 per cent, reflecting sustained awareness campaigns and swift response mechanisms. Property offences also registered a marginal decrease, with a notable improvement in recovery.

Mr. Dudi said that the police recovered stolen property worth ₹8.39 crore in 2025, increasing the recovery rate to 73 per cent, compared to 48 per cent the previous year. Additionally, 1,021 stolen mobile phones valued at ₹2.04 crore were traced and returned to victims, and ₹68.44 lakh was recovered and refunded to cyber fraud victims.

Women’s safety remained a top priority, with six Shakti teams deployed across the district and large-scale legal and cyber awareness programmes conducted for women and girl students. The Shakti App crossed 6.14 lakh downloads, aiding quicker emergency response. In road safety enforcement, police booked 2,772 drunk-and-drive cases, imposing fines totalling ₹27.7 crore, and seized 100 vehicles driven by minors in Chittoor town alone, he said.

The SP observed that several high-impact cases, including murders for gain, dacoity attempts, inter-district burglary gangs, and sexual offences, were detected, leading to major recoveries and arrests. Under the POCSO Act, multiple convictions were secured, including life imprisonment and long-term sentences in cases involving sexual offences against minors.

Mr. Dudi maintained that technology-led policing expanded significantly, with over 2,400 CCTV cameras installed across the district, aiding detection in 152 cases. New Police Command and Control Centres, drone surveillance, ANPR systems, and innovative Falcon and Mini Falcon vehicles enhanced monitoring, traffic enforcement and crime prevention.

The district police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting life, property and public order through proactive, people-centric and technology-enabled policing, he said.
