After the sighting in Sector 6, authorities have issued alerts for the surrounding areas, including Sector 4, Sector 8, Sector 9, Sector 12, and Sector 17.
An alert has been issued in Panchkula on Saturday afternoon following the sighting of a leopard in Sector 6. The leopard was reportedly seen around noon at an under-construction house, triggering panic among local residents.
As soon as the information was received, teams from the Forest Department and Haryana Police arrived at the scene to capture the animal. A joint operation is currently underway, with both departments working together to ensure the safe rescue of the leopard.
In an effort to locate the animal, the teams have deployed a drone to track the leopard’s exact position.
“The use of the drone is expected to assist in monitoring the leopard’s movements and facilitate a safer rescue operation,” a police officer said.
The incident follows a similar occurrence in the nearby Morni area. Just a day before, a leopard had entered a house in Dabla village, where the house owners were awakened by the loud barking of a dog. The noise caused by the dog alerted the residents, who quickly raised an alarm, prompting the leopard to flee back into the jungle.
In addition to the ongoing search for the leopard, the animal was captured on nearby CCTV cameras, and the footage is being reviewed by the wildlife team. The footage will help the team assess the leopard’s movements, enabling them to plan a safe approach for its rescue. Increased patrolling in the area has been ordered, and the Forest Department is working closely with local police to coordinate the efforts.
The recent sightings have raised concerns about the safety of local residents, especially in the Morni region. In villages like Dabla, it has become increasingly dangerous for people to walk on streets or alleys at night, as leopards have been spotted crossing the paths of vehicles, putting the lives of two-wheeler riders at risk. The presence of wildlife in populated areas has led to growing fears about potential threats to human safety.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any further sightings of the leopard.
