Photograph: Darfur Network for Human Rights Asked to sum up a crisis that has left 33 million in need of assistance and is estimated to have killed at least 150,000, the UN’s head in Sudan said: “Bloody unacceptable is what it is. Overall, the war has set Sudan’s economy back more than 30 years according to a detailed assessment by the UN Development Programme and the Institute for Security Studies, which also found that an additional 34 million people could be pushed into deprivation if the conflict continues until 2030.

Amid a spike in oil prices, a global energy crisis and the ongoing Iran-US war sparking tensions in the Middle East, India has condemned the targeting of commercial shipping in international waters, and called for de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy. "The exercise of navigational rights and freedom by merchant and commercial vessels in accordance with international law must be respected, " he added.
