“The best way to describe it is white swan to black swan,” Alex explained of her gown, later adding, “I instantly felt like a different b---h—I feel like I’m Natalie Portman, a little mix of Tilda Swinton… I think there’s just an actress energy that it puts me in.”
And for her historic moment as the first trans woman on the Met Gala host committee, she felt honored to have been dressed by the Italian fashion house.
“You feel as if it’s a piece of armor that changes you for the better,” she said. “Demna gives the girls the opportunity to express themselves individually.”
Indeed, she expressed herself not just as an attendee at the Costume Institute benefit, but also as a member of the night’s host committee, with Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour on co-chair duty.
