The four-day kabaddi tournament organised by the Baidwan Kabaddi Club Suhana in memory of Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh witnessed a spectacular third day, marked by thrilling horse races that became the centre of attraction. After dog races on the first day and bullock-cart races on the second, horse racing stole the spotlight on Day Three.
A total of 73 horses participated in the races. Although the horse, “Badshah”, clocked an impressive 16.47 seconds, it was disqualified due to a foul and missed the top position. The first prize was clinched by “Pradhanmantri,” owned by Lovely Gabbe Majra, which completed the 1,000-metre track in 17.25 seconds, winning a motorcycle.
“Badshah,” owned by Balraj Singh Sohana, secured the third position, completing the track in 17.47 seconds and winning Rs 15,000.
Renowned horses such as “Trump”, “Mirza,” “Sahiba,”“Kartus,” and “Aatwadi” also showcased impressive performances, earning loud applause from the spectators.
Cash prizes were awarded to all horses finishing from fourth to tenth positions. The horse finishing 10th completed the track in 18 seconds and received a cash reward of Rs 2,100.
Simultaneously, Kabaddi matches continued at the Dussehra Ground in Sector 79, Sohana, where competitions across various weight categories were held alongside the racing events. Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh attended the tournament as the chief guest, distributing prizes to the winners. Thousands of spectators enjoyed the sporting spectacle.
On the tournament’s concluding day, prizes for the kabaddi matches were announced: brand-new Sonalika tractors, along with Rs 3.50 lakh and Rs 2.50 lakh, will be awarded to the best raiders and defenders.
Tournament patron Rupinder Singh Roopa Sohana honoured outstanding players and top-performing raiders/defenders with motorcycles and bicycles. Baidwan Club president Rubal Suhana, municipal councillor Harjit Singh Bholu, former municipal councillor Surinder Singh Roda, Mahinder Singh, and Minder Sohana were present. Club officials supervised the entire tournament while the spectator turnout remained impressive throughout the day.
