“Please repost this and spread the love by spreading the word,” Paul—who shares kids Harris, 4, Jonah, 2, and Isla Grace, 6 months, with wife Amy Boland Hauser—continued. “I am trying to raise 20k by March 1st, through recorded Cameo videos, and then I plan to do an auction of celebrity friends’ personal items and autographs (Josh GadBecky LynchJimmy Kimmel, and many many more-) to continue our support of a fellow actor, father and husband who has rolled a painful pair of dice these last couple years.”

“I’ve always liked James Van Der Beek and he seems like a really good dude,” he added. “Let’s help him out in this difficult moment. Prayers Up 4 The Beek!”

His touching gesture comes after James—who shares kids Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 6, and Jeremiah, 2, with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek—announced that he was selling souvenirs from his time on Dawson’s Creek, with the proceeds going towards his medical treatment amid his ongoing battle with stage 3 colon cancer.

"I've been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them," James said in a statement posted to Propstore's Live Auction website, "and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it's clear that the time is now."

And though The Rules of Attraction star, 48, has faced unimaginable hardship since sharing his diagnosis publicly in 2024, he’s also been open about how it’s impacted his life positively.

"As soon as I heard the news, I thought, 'This is going to be the best thing that ever happened to me,'" James said during the Dec. 19 episode of Today. "I had this little voice in my head that said, 'You're going to make changes in your life that you would never, ever make if you didn't have this extreme of a diagnosis.'"

He added, “Really, the biggest change would be this journey of self-love. What I realized was, I'm still worthy of love."
