Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MP, has urged authorities to expedite key infrastructure projects in Mysuru, particularly the proposed flyover at Manipal Hospital junction on the Outer Ring Road.
In this regard, Mr. Wadiyar met National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Chief Secretary Umashankar in New Delhi on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum seeking early implementation of the project. He explained that the junction, located on the busy Bengaluru–Mysuru highway, witnesses heavy traffic movement and frequent congestion.
The MP said the construction of the flyover would prove to be a milestone for Mysuru, as it would help reduce road accidents, cut travel time, ease congestion, and ensure smoother entry and exit to the city. The NHAI Chief Secretary reportedly responded positively to the proposal.
During the meeting, Mr. Wadiyar also discussed the construction of service roads along the Mysuru–Kushalnagar highway. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and NHAI officials for approving several infrastructure projects for Mysuru and Kodagu districts.
The MP also met Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday and urged him to establish an automobile and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing cluster in Mysuru. Submitting a memorandum, Mr. Wadiyar sought priority for the overall industrial development of the region.
Explaining Mysuru’s advantages, he said the city has excellent connectivity to Bengaluru, Chennai and Kerala through national highways, expressways and rail networks, and is well connected to the international airports at Bengaluru and Kannur. These factors, he noted, make Mysuru a suitable location for automobile and EV manufacturing units.
He also pointed out that Mysuru has several engineering colleges, polytechnics and research institutions, providing a strong base of technically skilled manpower. Availability of land, lower congestion, high quality of life and an industry-friendly environment made the city an ideal investment destination.
The proposed automobile and EV manufacturing cluster would not only boost industrial growth but also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for youth besides supporting allied sectors such as auto components, batteries, electronics and logistics, the MP said.
Referring to the Union government’s initiatives such as Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and the thrust on the EV sector, Mr. Wadiyar urged the Union Minister to take a policy decision to establish a major industrial cluster in Mysuru.
