Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar said on Sunday that he had written to the police chief demanding a forensic investigation into an online video that purportedly showed a person resembling Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and was alleged to be linked to sacrilege.
“If the Punjab Police could investigate a video related to former Delhi chief minister Atishi within one day, then the authenticity of this video linked to religious sacrilege—whether true or fake—can also be determined within a day,” Jakhar said while speaking to the media at Chandigarh after attending a rally in Ludhiana’s Samrala city held as part of the BJP’s awareness campaign on the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission-Gramin (VB-G RAM G) scheme. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also attended the event.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly has issued notices to the Punjab DGP, special DGP, and the Jalandhar police commissioner regarding the FIR registered in relation to the video pertaining to former Delhi chief minister Atishi, during an address in the House.
“Punjab is a sensitive state, and such a video could cause massive unrest in the state. Therefore, it is essential that its authenticity be examined and the truth be established,” Jakhar said of the video purportedly featuring Mann.
The BJP leader also urged Mann to obtain an impartial forensic investigation report on the video before appearing before the Akal Takht on January 15.
Jakhar further said that the BJP would on January 16 gherao the chief minister’s residence in Chandigarh and question Mann about the deteriorating law and order situation and the rising gang violence in the state as well as the video.
“If the video is false, the Government should issue a clarification based on facts, and if the video is found to be genuine, then Bhagwant Mann has no moral right to continue as the chief minister,” the BJP leader said.
