A short video shot at Thalassery railway station in Kerala has caught the internet’s attention for an unusual reason: just how clean it looks.
The clip was shared on Instagram by content creator Mubeena and was filmed from inside a slowly moving train. As the train passes the station, the camera captures a continuous, unobstructed view of the platform, its floors shining, with no litter, waste, or clutter anywhere in sight.
From pillars and signboards to stalls and waiting areas, everything appears remarkably well-maintained. The text overlay on the video reads, “Not a single piece of trash in the station,” highlighting what many viewers found surprising. In a light-hearted caption, Mubeena added, “And no one robbed my phone while shooting this video,” tagging the location as Kerala.
The video quickly went viral, with social media users praising Kerala’s focus on cleanliness, public hygiene, and civic responsibility. Several viewers noted that the cleanliness was especially striking because it was filmed in motion, not a carefully framed still shot.
One user commented, “Let the civic sense stay there, the cleaning Staffs there are doing their job very well.” Another wrote, “Its not only Government Responsible.. Its Everyone Responsibilities.”
Others shared personal experiences. A third user said, “I have Travelled across India, but Kerala railway stations feel much cleaner when compared to that of north. It’s actually a combination of both civic sense and system-level management, not just one factor.… and yeah, Vimal & gutka are banned here.”
A fourth individual shared, “Once a North Indian guy was chewing tobacco at the station in Kerala he threw that rapper on the platform which was spotless and i know how much effort women workers at the station give to clean it. I got furious and told him to pick it up and throw it in the dustbin and asked him ‘do you see any trash around ? Then why you threw it ?don’t you see how much effort it takes to keep it clean’ he ignored but his friend told him to pick it up and throw in the dustbin and he did it.”
