Asserting that people with shrunken hearts cannot be spiritual, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that the circumference of ‘mann’ (heart) is directly proportional to the magnitude of sukh (happiness).

Inaugurating the Shrimad Rajchandra Sarvamangal Centre of Excellence for Women (COEW) at Dharampur in Gujarat’s Valsad, Singh said women have proved time and again whenever given equal opportunities, they can perform as well as or even outperform men.

Singh emphasised on raising spiritual awareness by “opening up one’s heart” and “bringing ego to zero.”

Invoking his side as a physics lecturer (he worked as a lecturer of Physics at KB Post-Graduate College Mirzapur, UP), Singh said that he could explain the meaning of individual spirituality through a math formula.

“Only performing a puja in a mandir, offering ibadat in a mosque or bowing down in church is not spirituality. A person like me believes that the elevation of the mind and opening up your heart is the way to spirituality. People with shrunken hearts cannot be spiritual… a person can attain spiritual height in precise proportion to how big your heart is. In Mathematical equation, I can explain it as: the circumference of mann (heart) is directly proportional to the magnitude of sukh (happiness).”

Even as the audience applauded Singh’s thought, he went on to equate ego with a decimal in Math and said, “A person of a small mind cannot attain happiness… staying humble and calm and not allowing your ego to interfere (in your thoughts) is the key… ” “A point can change the value of the biggest numbers in Math. You add a point (decimal) before a number and it loses

its value… If ego becomes zero, you can achieve infinity of contentment…”

The Union Minister said that women have the potential to outperform men, citing the example of the Mahila Udyog, led by Jaswantiben Popat, that built the brand of Lijjat Papad as well as Ela Bhatt of SEWA.

“Women have proved time and again that whenever they are given equal opportunities, they can perform as well as or even outperform men,” he said.
