The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced a complete boycott of the ongoing winter session of Telangana Assembly, alleging unilateral conduct by the Speaker and undemocratic behaviour of the Congress government.
After staging a walkout from the House on Friday (January 2, 2026), BRS legislators held a protest at Gun Park, where former Minister T. Harish Rao addressed the media and alleged that opposition members were humiliated and their rights snatched. It was evident the way they were made to wait for over an hour for the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, he said, accusing the Speaker of distorting the agreed minutes related to the duration of the Assembly session.
Mr. Harish Rao claimed that the microphones of BRS members were switched off during Question Hour when they attempted to question the Government, calling it a direct assault on democratic norms. “If questioning the Chief Minister is not allowed, there is no purpose in convening the Assembly,” he said.
The former Minister also accused the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of using inappropriate language and indulging in body-shaming on the floor of the House. He alleged that the Assembly was being run like a party office rather than a legislative forum.
Referring to the Musi River Rejuvenation issue, Mr. Harish Rao said the BRS was ready for a full-fledged discussion and questioned the Government’s silence on key issues, including compensation for displaced families and the use of Godavari water. He highlighted that the previous BRS government had constructed 32 sewage treatment plants and sent proposals for 39 more to the Centre.
He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi publicly carries the Constitution, while ignoring the Telangana government’s actions, which Mr. Rao claimed were undemocratic and undermining the Telangana Assembly.
Alleging that the Assembly Speaker was showing signs of bias while the government was full of arrogance, the BRS leader announced that the party would boycott the Assembly session.
