A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing her 62-year-old father-in-law, a retired engineer of the Indian Air Force, by throttling him and repeatedly bashing his head on the concrete floor of their house in Dwarka’s Bindapur.

Police said the murder was driven by a long-running dispute over sharing family property.

The incident took place at 10.46 am on December 27 at the family’s residence in Mansa Ram Park, said police. The accused, Geeta, was arrested from the spot and has allegedly admitted to the crime.

According to police, Geeta allegedly pushed her father-in-law, Naresh Kumar, onto the terrace floor, sat on his chest, and banged his head against the concrete surface before throttling him. The assault was witnessed by Geeta’s 13-year-old niece and four-year-old son.

In her statement, the teenager told police that her cousin alerted her, saying he was scared because his mother was attacking his grandfather. When she rushed upstairs, police said she found Geeta assaulting Kumar and called her father, Kapil Kumar, who asked her to seek help from neighbours.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said a police team from Bindapur police station reached the spot following a PCR call. “Geeta was on the first floor. She stated that she had beaten her father-in-law, who is now unconscious on the roof. Naresh was immediately shifted to the hospital… The crime team and an FSL expert were called at the spot, who inspected and photographed the crime scene and lifted exhibits. During enquiry, it was revealed that there was a dispute regarding sharing of the property,” said DCP Singh.

A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Bindapur police station. Geeta has been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway, police said.
