Social media has opened up opportunities for homemakers to earn a living by documenting their hobbies, daily experiences, and turning them into sources of income. Recently, a 52-year-old Indian woman celebrated the first-ever income she earned through YouTube.
The video was shared by the woman’s daughter, Anshul Pareek, on Instagram, showing her mother sitting with her phone. “Kya hua mummy? (What happened, mother?),” Pareek asks. Sharing her excitement, the woman says, “Apni zindagi ki pahli kamai maine achieve ki hai through YouTube at the age of 52…in just 6 months (This is the first income of my life that I earned through YouTube at 52…in just 6 months).”
“I’m a proud daughter,” Pareek captioned the video. “No age for dreams, only hard work and she proved it,” the text displayed on the video read.
With over a million views, the video prompted a wave of congratulatory reactions. “You can hear it in her voice. Knowing this money will give her a little freedom and choice. We all deserve autonomy,” a user wrote. “She was just about to cry…but controlled some how i guess,” another user commented.
“I feel so sad, her dreams her aspirations her talent. 53 years to break free….. bless you ….one woman breaking the shackles is setting every woman free,” a third user reacted.
In April, a video of a 62-year-old woman in Chandigarh beginning her street food venture grabbed attention on the Internet. Speaking to a vlogger about her journey, the woman shared that she had been a homemaker all her life and was always passionate about food. “Before this, I used to be a housewife. I was always passionate about food, so I thought I should just do this. Why should I focus on my age? You can take up any hobby at any age,” she said, adding, “I have been cooking food for the past 50 years.”
