Vaa Vaathiyaar box office day 1: Fans were elated to see Karthi return to the big screen with Vaa Vaathiyaar. However, the film, which released on Wednesday, had a lukewarm opening at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 1.5 crore on its first day of release amid stiff competition from other Pongal releases.

The film recorded an overall 21.41% Tamil occupancy. It saw its maximum occupancy of 28.02% during night shows, while morning, afternoon, and evening shows registered occupancies of 15.30%, 22.49%, and 19.82%, respectively.

Vaa Vaathiyaar is facing tough competition from other Pongal releases, including Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi. While Prabhas’ film has minted Rs 124.65 crore within six days of its release, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu earned Rs 79.60 crore within three days of release. Meanwhile, Parasakthi has collected Rs 30.58 crore within five days of its release.

The film was supposed to face Vijay’s Jana Nayagan at the theatres as well, as it was scheduled to release on January 9. However, after delay in certification by the CBFC, Jana Nayagan has been postponed, and a new release date is yet to be declared. The filmmakers have now appealed to the Supreme Court to hear the matter on their case against CBFC and it is expected that the issue might get resolved on January 15.

Vaa Vaathiyaar also stars Krithi Shetty in the lead role. Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, G. M. Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, and P. L. Thenappan play supporting roles in the film. The film is written and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner. It has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography handled by George C. Williams, and editing by Vetre Krishnan.
