Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of reversing the development achieved in Palamuru (combined/erstwhile Mahabubnagar) district and pushing it back into distress and migration for livelihoods.

Addressing a meeting of the newly elected Sarpanches and Upa-Sarpanches with the support of BRS in Nagarkurnool district, he said the Congress government had failed to carry forward key irrigation and development projects and was undoing the progress made during the BRS regime. Despite being in power for two years, the present government had not completed even 10% of the works initiated earlier, he alleged.

“Palamuru was made green and prosperous under Mr. Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership. Today, without even lifting a basketful of soil, the Chief Minister is indulging in irresponsible and abusive rhetoric. Congress has once again turned Palamuru into a migration district by stalling projects and drying up irrigation sources,” Mr. Rama Rao said.

Stating that nearly 90% of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme’s head works were completed when Mr. Chandrashekar Rao was in power, he said that the Congress government cancelled approved tenders and crippled the project after coming to power. “Mr. Revanth Reddy had compromised on Telangana’s rightful water share and severely impacted farmers,” he added.

He stated that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was preparing for another phase of struggle to protect Palamuru–Rangareddy project, safeguard Telangana’s water interests and stand with farmers and he would soon visit Palamuru to mobilise support for protecting Telangana’s water rights. He highlighted how the investment support given to farmers in the form of Rythu Bandhu had been made irregular and how the government forced farmers to plead for urea, standing in long queues even during cold conditions.

Mr. Rama Rao accused the Congress of coming to power with unrealistic promises and cheating the public after assuming office. He said the Chief Minister resorted to abusive language whenever questioned about the implementation of poll promises even after completing two years in power. “Mr. Revanth Reddy is only obsessed with criticising Mr. Chandrashekar Rao,” he added.

Further, he stated that the Revanth Reddy government was eyeing nearly 9,300 acres of land in Hyderabad allotted to industries at concessional rates in the larger interest of development and employment, by bringing in HILT policy.

Party leaders M. Janardhan Reddy, C. Laxma Reddy, V. Srinivas Goud, R.S. Praveen Kumar, G. Jaipal Yadav, A. Venkateshwar Reddy, B. Harshavardhan Reddy, P. Narender Reddy and others participated.
