However, details about the condition or what the official cause of death was for O'Hara were not disclosed.
Prior to her passing, the Schitt's Creek alum—who is survived by her husband Bo Welch and their kids Matthew Welch, 32, and Luke Welch, 28—had been candid about her health, sharing that she had been diagnosed with cardiac inversus, or dextrocardia with situs inversus.
For O'Hara, living with the rare congenital condition, which causes a person's heart and other internal organs to be on the other side of the body, partly inspired her career in comedy.
“There’s no better survival instinct,” she told Variety in March, noting that as a comedian her job is to "look for the light.”
O'Hara added, “My parents were both really funny, and a sense of humor was always appreciated. Laughing and being funny was highly encouraged at our table."
Following her death, several of The Studio actress' costars and friends highlighted her passion for making people laugh in heartfelt tributes.
"What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years," Dan Levy–who starred opposite her on Schitt's Creek—shared on Instagram Jan. 30. "I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."
