A 26-year-old man died after the SUV he was driving overturned on the Barapullah Flyover in South Delhi in the early hours of Monday, said police, adding that six of his family, who were travelling along with him in the vehicle, were also injured in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Harsh. He was travelling with six relatives, identified as Nikhil, Gagan (19), Bhisham (25), Yuvraj (20), Maan (16), and Himanshu (23), said officers. All of them, hailing from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, were returning home after attending a pre-wedding ceremony in the Capital. Harsh was preparing for entrance exams for government jobs, police said.

By the time the team of police officers reached the site of the accident, the injured had already been rushed to the hospital. Later, information about a medico-legal case (MLC) was received from AIIMS Trauma Centre, reporting about seven injured persons. “During medical examination, injured Harsh was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors,” the officer stated.

Another officer said, “The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Factors such as overspeeding, possible loss of control and road conditions are being examined. The damaged vehicle has been seized.”

Preliminary enquiry revealed that the deceased was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, wherein the vehicle hit the divider at the end of Barapullah Flyover towards the Ring Road.

Officers said a case has been registered under sections 106 (death by negligence), 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 125 (endangering life or personal safety) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further investigation is underway.

In another incident, about a dozen South Korean tourists got injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, the incident happened at about 1 pm when the tourist bus — with around 15 South Korean nationals —rammedi nto another bus which was standing still. A police officer said that the tourists suffered minor abrasions, and were rushed to a nearby hospital for checks.

“Prima facie, it seems the driver suddenly lost control due to some medical condition, and hence rammed the bus,” the officer said.
